Custom yarn from your pet's hair!™

PawEverything But The SlobberShip ItWe Receive ItSpin ItWrapCleanSet

We go through a step-by-step process to ensure you the highest quality product possible. You can help out, too, by making sure you send us high quality hair to begin with.

You send us your hair. The hair is cataloged and stored in a safe place until we receive your deposit.

Step One

As soon as we have both your hair and your deposit, we enter you into the line. We work solely on a first come, first served basis. Please keep in mind that we’re a family business. We work as fast and as hard as we can.

Step Two

We spin your yarn. Please notice that we do not card your hair or blend it with any other fibers! This is important to you for two reasons:

· Most other places would card your hair before spinning. This makes it easier to spin, but it also blends all the colors together. If you have a pet with only one color, like an American Eskimo, this is fine. But if you have a pet with two or more colors in its coat, like a Collie, then carding mixes all those colors together into an even “blah” color. We preserve the unique color characteristics of your pet by spinning the hair directly from the hair you collect. This leads to more character in your finished product, reflecting the uniqueness of your pet.

· For example, a collie may have 3 different colors: white, black, and brown. If that hair is carded, the end result will be an even greyish brown yarn. But at The Fuzzy Farm, we preserve the original color variation in your pet’s hair, yielding a skein of yarn that is alternately white, black, and brown.

· The yarn that you get is 100% pure hair from your pet! Most other places will tell you that you must mix your pet’s hair with sheep’s wool in order to get a workable yarn. This is not true, although it does make it easier to make the yarn. At The Fuzzy Farm, we feel it’s important to take the extra time to make a high-quality product that is completely representative of your pet.

Step Three

We wrap the spun skein onto a special device called a niddy-noddy in preparation for washing and setting your yarn.

Step Four

We wash your yarn using a special detergent. This gently cleanses all the oils, grease, and loose dirt from your yarn without damaging the yarn itself.

Step Five

We deodorize and set your skein using a special compound to fix the fibers in place.
